Fallout 4’s highly anticipated Fallout London mod finally has a release date. The upcoming total conversion mod will take players to post-apocalyptic Britain when it launches in late April.

Fallout London launches on April 23

With the games and upcoming show all taking place in the continental US, Fallout has always been vague about the state of the rest of the world. However, some fans will share their own interpretation of post-apocalyptic Britain with the upcoming Fallout London, first announced in 2021. According to its latest trailer, the mod launches on April 23, coinciding with the English celebration of St. George’s Day.

While developer Team Folon hoped to release Fallout London late last year, it faced a last-minute delay for additional polish. The COVID-19 pandemic also posed a challenge to development.

More of an extended showcase than a simple trailer, the 13-minute video offers a detailed overview of the upcoming mod. According to the video, the mod’s open world includes 15 Burroughs of London. Each of these districts has a different theme reflecting the region’s history and how 160 years of post-apocalypse have reshaped the city. In addition to the main open world, Fallout London also has 11 additional world spaces and over 300 interiors. According to Team Folon, this gives it a total area equivalent to Fallout 4 and its Far Harbor DLC combined.

The showcase also revealed that the mod has 53 main quests and over 100 side, faction, and companion quests. Some of these storylines intersect, and Fallout London has over 90,000 lines of dialogue. This is more than Fallout: New Vegas and only slightly less than Fallout 4.

The new setting also necessitates new weapons, armor, and enemy types, with Team Folon showing several in the trailer. While many are reskins of existing items and creatures, others are wholly original to Fallout London.

A new Halo game is on the way — though it’s coming to tabletop instead of Xbox or PC. UK company Mantic Games will partner with 343 Industries to produce a new Halo tabletop miniatures game.

Halo tabletop game launches in September, preview in March

Mantic announced the Halo tabletop game in a post on the company’s blog last week. The company did not reveal anything specific about the upcoming miniatures game, which launches in September. However, Mantic has a preview of the game coming in March.

“We are thrilled to team up with Mantic Games to bring a new Halo tabletop game to fans in 2024,” said Xbox Consumer Products lead John Friend. “Mantic is a leader in tabletop gaming, and their quality and experience show through in all their work. I’m most excited in this case about their passion for the Halo franchise and for bringing Halo gameplay to tabletop gaming in an incredibly authentic way.”

Mantic founder and CEO Ronnie Renton also commented on the partnership.

“We’re extremely excited to be partnering with 343 Industries on bringing Halo to tabletops everywhere,” he said. “Having a firefight play out on the table while moving Spartans in and out of cover connects players to the action in a new and special way. We have a thrilling and competitive game, from a passionate team of talented sculptors, artists, and designers who have been building an incredible Halo experience.”

Founded in 2008, Mantic is not the biggest name in tabletop gaming. However, it has a reputation for both quality and affordability. It specializes in small-unit tabletop games comparable to Warhammer 40K: Kill Team, Necromunda, and Cyberpunk Red: Combat Zone. These typically involve players controlling smaller squads rather than the larger armies of games like Warhammer 40K. The new Halo tabletop game will likely be similar.

Samsung recently announced a new Xbox-style controller for the Samsung Gaming Hub. Preorders are already out of stock on sites like Amazon and Best Buy, though they are still available on the manufacturer’s website.

Samsung reveals Replay Wireless Controller for smart TVs

The Korean electronics firm is the most significant player in smart TVs, and most now ship with a dedicated gaming hub app. With Xbox Game Pass now compatible with smart TVs, gamers no longer need a console to play thousands of games. The company recently announced its “Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub” program, partnering with companies to produce new gaming accessories. This includes its partnership with Performance Designed Products, which designed the new Replay Midnight Blue Wireless Controller.

PDP’s new controller adapts the Xbox controller stick and button layout with minor alterations. Users can launch the Gaming Hub from the controller’s home button, and it features built-in volume controls. It uses a built-in rechargeable battery that Samsung says will boast a maximum of 40 hours per charge. Meanwhile, its Bluetooth wireless connection has a range of 30 feet.

The Replay Wireless Controller is only the first of several licensed projects from this program. “Samsung recognizes the indispensable role of accessories in elevating gaming experiences,” said Jiho Ha, Head of Service Partnerships. Building on our already-high level of compatibility, the ‘Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub’ program will see us collaborating with trusted partners to craft accessories that further enhance the premier experience of the Samsung Gaming Hub.”

The company hasn’t revealed what other gaming gear the company’s partners are working on. However, the electronics giant plans to show more at the Consumer Technology Association conference, which began today in Las Vegas.

Microsoft announced that the next episode of the Xbox Developer Direct, the first of 2024, will premiere on January 18. The upcoming event will offer fans a closer look at Avowed, Indiana Jones, Ara: History Untold, and Senua’s Saga: Hellbalde II. Zenimax Online Studios will follow the show with a standalone event previewing the next year of The Elder Scrolls Online content.

The upcoming Xbox Developer Direct streams on YouTube and Twitch at 3 p.m ET/12 p.m. PT on January 18. According to Xbox, the show will include the official reveal of MachineGame’s upcoming Indiana Jones title. The presentation will include the first Indiana Jones gameplay trailer and story and gameplay details.

Meanwhile, Obsidian Entertainment will offer a deep dive into its upcoming action RPG Avowed. Xbox says the showcase will demonstrate Obsidian’s approach to worldbuilding and how Avowed players will make choices that shape that world.

The Xbox Developer Direct will also showcase Ara: History Untold. This new grand strategy game is in development at Oxide Games and is spearheaded by former Civilization V developers. Oxide’s presentation will reveal gameplay, showcase key features, and discuss the studio’s plans and inspirations for the new game.

The Xbox showcase will also include a behind-the-scenes look at the development of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. This consists of a trip to Ninja Theory’s Cambridge studio and developers discussing their ambitions in crafting Senua’s survival adventure.

The Xbox Developer Direct will conclude at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT. At this point, the The Elder Scrolls Online 2024 Global Reveal begins. Zenimax Online will unveil the MMO’s next chapter, including new features, a new zone, and a new storyline.

The 13-year-old gamer Willis Gibson recently became the first person to ever “beat” the NES version of Tetris. While it has no win condition, the game breaks down at high levels, eventually crashing. Willis, known as “blue scuti,” is the first human player ever to reach that point.

As AP reported, Willis hit Tetris’ kill screen on Level 157, well past the point it was designed for. At level 29, the blocks start falling faster than the game processes controller inputs. It took until 2011 for a player to hit level 30, and players wouldn’t reach Level 95 until 2022. At level 138, the game starts throwing unusual color combinations at the player. This, combined with the amount of time it takes to get there, created another obstacle in the decades-long quest.

Fans could only make progress with the help of an AI called StackRabbit. It pushed a modified version of Tetris all the way up to Level 237, where the game finally hit a kill screen. The AI allowed players to map out all possible scenarios that could cause Tetris to crash.

This project inspired Willis to make his attempt, though even he was shocked to finally break it at level 157 on December 21. The teenage gamer almost passes out when it finally happens, hyperventilating and clutching his temples.

Tetris CEO Maya Rogers later congratulated Willis in a statement.

“Congratulations to ‘blue scuti’ for achieving this extraordinary accomplishment,” said Rogers, “a feat that defies all preconceived limits of this legendary game.”

Steam users who opt-in to Client Betas can now hide their games from people on their friends list. The new update also includes adding new features to the Steam Shopping Cart. This includes private shopping, inline gifting, and cart sharing between devices.

Steam users can set individual games to private

Previously, Steam Client users could only set privacy status for their entire account. According to Steam’s announcement, Beta users can now mark individual games as Private. Private games will not appear anywhere that other Steam users can see it. This lets players hide their ownership, playtime, and activity, even from people on their friends list.

“This additional control allows you to keep most of your Steam Library visible to your friends,” says Steam, “so they can see what you are playing and join in, yet also keep a few of those games just to yourself.

Users can set a game to Private in their shopping cart or from their game library. They can also do so whether signed in through the Steam Client or over a web browser.

While privacy is a big part of this Client beta, it also introduces new options for buying and sharing games on Steam. Users who add an item to their shopping cart can see it when signed in on any device. The beta only works on the Client, though Steam will likely add browser support to the full update.

Finally, Inline Gifting lets users buy games for multiple friends and themselves in a single purchase. Previously, and currently, for non-beta users, users had to make a separate purchase for each person on their gift list.

Again, users must opt-in to Steam Client betas to use these features. To do so, users must go to Steam Settings > Interface and then select “Steam Beta Update” from the drop-down menu under “Client Beta Participation.”

Microsoft announced that Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick is finally stepping down, effective December 29. He is not the only high-profile departure, though Microsoft intends to leave most of the company’s management in place.  

Activision Blizzard executives will answer to Xbox’s Matt Booty

As The Verge reported, Phil Spencer announced the leadership changes in an internal memo. Rather than appointing a new CEO, the conglomerate is incorporating upper management into Microsoft’s corporate hierarchy. Activision Blizzard Vice Chairman Thomas Tippl, Activision Publishing President Rob Kostich, Blizzard Entertainment President Mike Ybarra, and King President Tjodolf Sommestad will report to Matt Booty, Microsoft President of Game Content and Studios.

Microsoft appointed Booty in October to oversee Bethesda Softworks and the ZeniMax Media studios. These include Bethesda Game Studio, Arkane Studios, id Software, MachineGames, ZeniMax Online Studios, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Studio. While Jamie Leder retained his position as CEO of ZeniMax, Microsoft appointed Booty to prevent a repeat of Redfall’s disastrous launch. This latest management shakeup puts him in charge of all Xbox, ZeniMax, and Activision Blizzard Studios.

Other Activision Blizzard executives will retain their positions but now answer to different Microsoft departments. However, Kotick isn’t the only high-profile departure. Blizzard and King Vice Chairman Humam Sakhnini is also leaving at the end of December. Meanwhile, Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Communications Officer Lulu Meservey is leaving at the end of January.

In addition to the changes at Activision Blizzard, Matt Booty also announced Jill Braff as Head of the ZeniMax/Bethesda studios. She will oversee the development side, with Todd Howard, Product Development VP Todd Vaughn, Matt Firor, Paul Jensen, and Heather Cooper reporting to her. Additionally, ZeniMax’s QA and Release Management heads now answer to Vaughn.

Game director and Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke confirmed that the studio isn’t interested in bringing Baldur’s Gate 3 to Game Pass. While the hit RPG launched on Xbox Series X/S last week, it won’t come to Microsoft’s subscription service any time soon.

Larian decided against Game Pass from the beginning

IGN recently interviewed Vincke about the making of Larian Studio’s award-winning Baldur’s Gate 3. When the question of Game Pass came up, he made it clear that the studio isn’t interested.

“Oh, we always said from the get-go, it wasn’t going to be on Game Pass,” said Vincke, “it’s not going to be on Game Pass.”

“We made a big game,” he went on to say about Baldur’s Gate 3, “so I think there’s a fair price to be paid for that, and I think that that is okay. We don’t charge you any micro-transactions on top of it, so you get what you pay for. Upfront, it’s a big meaty game. So, I think that should be able to exist as it is. This is what allows us to continue making other games.”

The question of whether to put games on Game Pass is an issue that other developers have struggled with. Small studios and independent developers have a lot to gain from partnering with Microsoft in this way. However, larger publishers have complained about the lost value.

In Larian’s case, Baldur’s Gate 3 is more than successful enough to stand on its own two feet. That, combined with the studio’s pay-once approach to selling its game, makes it unsurprising Vincke isn’t interested in Game Pass.

Bethesda Softworks recently confirmed that Fallout 4’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S update isn’t coming until 2024. The studio announced the update in October 2022, but confirmed on Twitter that it pushed the update back to next year.

“Thank you for your patience with us as we work on the Fallout 4 next-gen update,” Bethesda tweeted yesterday. “We know you’re excited, and so are we! But we need a bit more time and look forward to an exciting return to the Commonwealth in 2024.”

The Fallout and Starfield developer did not give any further information on when fans should expect Fallout 4 to get full Series X/S and PS5 support.

Bethesda announced Fallout 4’s next-gen update on the franchise’s 25th anniversary last year. Initially set to release in 2023, the free update includes a performance mode to increase framerate on modern consoles and PCs. The update will also support 4K resolution and include additional bug fixes and new Creation Club content. However, fans will have to wait a bit longer.

Bethesda released Fallout 4 in November 2015, with its multiplayer spinoff Fallout 76 launching in 2018. While both games are backward compatible on PS5 and Series X/S, neither can use the hardware to its full potential. It also might be quite some time before Bethesda releases Fallout 5, with Starfield’s DLC and the long-awaited Elder Scrolls VI taking priority.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is finally available for the Meta Quest line of VR headsets. While Cloud Gaming is still in beta, users can download the app from the Meta Quest Store. No TV or console is required, but users will need to sign up for a Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

Cloud Gaming is now on Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro

The Cloud Gaming app is available now for Meta’s Quest 2, 3, and Pro headsets. Players will need to provide their own wireless Bluetooth controller, though it doesn’t need to be one made for Xbox consoles. In addition to Xbox controllers, Quest’s Xbox Cloud Gaming app supports PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers. Meta’s announcement also promised to add support for PS5 controllers in the future.

Meta’s Cloud Gaming app gives players access to Game Pass’s complete library of over 300 Xbox and PC games. However, it does not add VR functionality to games that don’t already have it. Instead, the headset displays the games on a virtual 2D screen inside an Xbox-themed virtual environment. Meta Quest 3 and Quest Pro users can instead choose to see their real-life surroundings through the headset’s Passthrough feature. Meta’s announcement is unclear whether the Cloud Gaming app supports the more limited Quest 2 version of Passthrough.

Quest’s new Game Pass app is part of an ongoing partnership between Microsoft and Meta. In October 2022, Microsoft announced plans to bring several of its apps to VR. Microsoft Mesh already allows users to conference in augmented reality with a full VR option coming in January. The company also plans to bring the full suite of Microsoft 365 applications to Quest devices.

The CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, says AI will help studios produce higher-quality games. However, he doesn’t believe it will make game development faster or cheaper.

Take-Two’s CEO says generative AI will make games better but not cheaper

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke at the Paley International Council Summit in New York last month. As Gaming Bible reported, his talk discussed how AI could enhance games like the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI. Zelnick did not confirm whether GTA 6 uses AI development tools. Instead, he argued that generative AI will let developers create better games for the same amount of time and money. However, the Take-Two executive doesn’t expect that will translate to a net reduction in cost or development time. As such, consumers shouldn’t expect a decrease in prices.

Developers have used rising development costs to justify microtransactions and the shift to charging $70 for AAA games. Therefore, the more cynically minded might wonder if the Take-Two executive is making excuses.

Still, this attitude is in line with Zelnick’s past statements. During a November interview with CNBC’s Mad Money, the Take-Two executive argued that generative AI will improve game quality and benefit the consumer. However, during Take-Two’s earnings call in May, he argued that much of the discourse around AI is blatant hyperbole. This includes the idea that AI might come to dominate game development. “Genius is the domain of human beings, and I believe will stay that way,” said Zelnick.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily address the controversy around AI, including the fear that developers will use it to cut staff and corners. Nexon subsidiary Embark Studios recently faced criticism for using AI-generated voice lines in The Finals. Embark and Take-Two may argue that they don’t intend AI to replace human actors and developers, but only time will tell if that is true.

Developer Rocksteady Studios recently confirmed that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League will eventually get an offline mode. However, it also specified that the Suicide Squad game’s offline option will not be part of the game at launch.

Rocksteady revealed this news on the company’s official Discord channel and was later reposted on a since-deleted Resetera thread.

“We’re happy to confirm we are planning to add an offline story mode that will give players the option to experience the main campaign without an internet connection,” said Rocksteady. “We’re aiming to add this update in 2024 and will provide more details when available.”

While that’s unfortunately not much information to go on, it’s good news for Suicide Squad fans who prefer an offline experience. Of course, Rocksteady will still need to ensure the game is good for that to matter. The recent Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League trailer still hasn’t given fans an uninterrupted look at gameplay.

The upcoming game launches in January 2024 and is part of Warner Bros.’s push for more live service games. According to CEO David Zaslav, WB wants games that maximize the amount of time players spend on one title. However, this new initiative has seen a somewhat shaky start. The open beta of WB’s MultiVersus saw a lukewarm reception, and Suicide Squad’s announcement didn’t generate much buzz.

Potential players were also put off by Suicide Squad’s always online components. Warner Bros.’ decision to delay the game may have been to give developers more time to remove Kill the Justice League’s always-online requirement. While that turned out not to be 100% the case, Rocksteady is clearly aware of fans’ desires for an offline mode.

Epic Games and LEGO partnered to create a new Fortnite cooperative crafting mode called LEGO Fortnite. Downloadable through the Fortnite launcher, LEGO promises to offer a secure environment for kids to express their creativity.

Fortnite is no stranger to crossovers, but this extends beyond adding new skins. LEGO Fortnite allows up to eight players to build and explore procedurally generated worlds. In Survival Worlds, players can team up to gather resources and battle enemies ranging from wolves to pirates. These play the most like a typical crafting survival game, with players gathering resources to craft tools and buildings.

As players build and create, they will unlock new blueprints for bigger and better things. Meanwhile, Sandbox Worlds gives players an endless supply of LEGO Bricks to make whatever they want.

LEGO stresses a commitment to child safety

LEGO described its commitment to safety in a Parent’s Guide on the company website. Fortnite introduced age ratings to islands in November, which also apply to LEGO Fortnite islands. Epic’s parental controls also allow parents to control their children’s experiences. These include setting voice and text chat permissions, purchase settings, and requiring parents to input a PIN when their child receives a friend request. Players under 13 or below their country’s age of digital consent will need parental consent to access certain features.

These safety features are not new or unique to the LEGO Fortnite mode. However, it is understandable that LEGO wanted to lay out its comment on child safety. While Fortnite is incredibly popular with preteens, a majority of players are in the 18 to 24 range. While LEGO is not exclusively for children, it’s essential to exercise caution in any online space where kids and adults interact.

Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora launches tomorrow, December 7, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Amazon Luna. The first-person action game puts players in the role of a Na’vi orphan who must help the tribes of the Western Frontier resist the Resources Development Administration. However, some reviewers came away with a more positive perception than others.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has a great world but divisive story and gameplay

Multiple reviews compare the game to the Far Cry series. Destructoid’s Stevin Mills felt that the game pushed the Far Cry formula further than usual while introducing some unique elements. VideoGamer’s Antony Terence also noted that Frontiers of Pandora doesn’t hold the player’s hands as much as in Far Cry. This allows players to get lost and immerse themselves in the vibrant landscapes.

VGC’s Jordan Middler disagreed, feeling the game was overly formulaic. While their review was mostly positive, Middler also found its story unengaging. VideoGamer described the antagonist as “one note.” However, GameInformer’s Matt Miller thought Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora successfully expanded on the film series‘ environmental themes and exploration of colonialism.

VGC’s review also criticized the combat for being unbalanced, saying guns made stealth and other weapons unnecessary. On the other hand, Anthony McGlynn from PCGamesN has positive things to say about how Frontiers of Pandora encourages players to think tactically and use a variety of weapons. However, he said that enemies detect the player too quickly for stealth to be viable. He also felt that the gameplay undercut the story somewhat by making the RDA seem belligerent to the point of incompetence.

Avatar fans will like it

However, one thing that most reviews agreed on is that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora does a great job presenting its world. Most of Pandora is colorful and vibrant, contrasting with the visible pollution emanating from the RDA’s industrial outposts. Some felt the game’s focus on the setting came at the expense of other aspects. Still, most agree it succeeds at recreating the world of the Avatar films.

Overall, Avatar and Far Cry fans will probably both find plenty to like about Frontiers of Pandora. However, those who didn’t care for either franchise might not find much in it to change their mind.

Blizzard fixed a severe bug introduced in Diablo 4’s recent 1.2.3 update. The glitch caused all high-level players’ Glyphs to lose one level the same day Blizzard introduced a punishing new dungeon.

Blizzard Fixes Diablo 4 Glyph bug

Diablo 4 has a level cap of 100 divided between its two systems. After reaching level 50, the player unlocks the Paragon Board, which lets them socket Glyphs for more powerful bonuses. Unfortunately, as PC Gamer reported, the game’s highly-anticipated 1.2.3 update introduced a glitch that caused all Glyphs to lose one level. This was particularly bad for players with level 15 Glyphs since the drop to level 14 reduced the radius around which the Glyph grants bonuses. This was enough to break many players’ builds.

Fortunately, Blizzard has since fixed the bug, and players Glyph’s are back to their intended level. Diablo 4 players who leveled their Glyphs up while the glitch affected them will keep their progress. So, a player who leveled their demoted Glyphs back up to 15 will notice they are now level 16.

The original bug was some very inconvenient timing for Diablo 4 players. Update 1.2.3’s main event was the introduction of the new Abattoir of Zir dungeon. The challenging dungeon tasks players with fighting their way through powerful demons on a tight, ten-minute time limit. Players have observed that the Abattoir of Zir’s first tier is harder than anything else in the game, and it only gets more complicated. Diablo 4 players have a penchant for creating game-breaking character builds, though Abattoir of Zir may take some time to crack.

Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way from its bungled launch in December 2020. The massive 2.0 update overhauled many of the game’s systems. The newest version, Update 2.1, went live today, December 5, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. While the changes may not be as drastic, the new version includes several exciting new features.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 adds many new features and adjustments

The most significant new feature is the addition of a rideable metro system. Previously, Night City’s elevated metro stations were just another kind of fast travel point. While Cyberpunk 2077 players can still use them as such, 2.1 gives them the option to ride the trains to their destination. The update adds four functioning train lines accessible from 19 metro stations around the city.

Players can also listen to music while riding, as 2.1 lets players listen to radio stations outside vehicles. Speaking of cars, players can now participate in repeatable street races after completing The Beast in Me quest. Cyberpunk 2077 players with a need for speed should look out for race flag icons on the mini-map.

Developers also added the ability for players to spend more time with their chosen love interest. After completing one of Cyberpunk 2077’s four main romance paths, players can invite them to any of V’s apartments. Once unlocked, players can initiate a Hangout whenever and as often as they want.

Finally, for the totally new features, the developer added sightseeing binoculars at some of Night City’s more impressive vistas. Update 2.1 also adds a new car and four new motorcycles to the in-game Autofixer website and improved bike controls. Players will also notice that the closed highway connecting Westbrook, Santo Domingo, and Heywood is now open, and NPC drivers are more responsive.

There are also several gameplay changes, including the potential for some Cyberpunk 2077 Gigs to result in car chases. Night City’s gangs will also remember if players habitually attack them and may send groups to hunt them down.

CD Projekt Red also seems to have noticed some fans’ disappointment with Cyberpunk 2077’s final boss. As a result, the developer improved the encounters against Yasha Ivanov, Boris Ribakov, and Adam Smasher. The latter now activates the time-slowing Sandevistan in combat, giving him a burst of speed from the player’s perspective.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.1 also includes a vast range of other bug fixes and rebalances to the game. For more details, players can check out the full 2.1 patch notes on the game’s website.

Xbox is working with its partner companies to launch a mobile gaming platform to compete with Google Play and The App Store. Phil Spencer briefly discussed Microsoft’s plans during a recent interview in São Paulo. He did not go into specifics but indicated that the new storefront isn’t too far in the future.

According to Bloomberg, reporters caught up with the head of Microsoft’s gaming division at the CCXP comics convention in São Paulo, Brazil. “It’s an important part of our strategy and something we are actively working on today not only alone, but talking to other partners who’d also like to see more choice for how they can monetize on the phone,” Spencer said of Microsoft expansion into mobile gaming.

Earlier reports indicated that Xbox’s mobile game store may launch next year. Spencer couldn’t give an exact date but indicated it was coming soon. “I don’t think this is multiple years away,” he said, “I think this is sooner than that.”

It’s not a coincidence that this interview happened in Brazil. The last few years saw Microsoft focus heavily on expanding its Game Pass subscription service. This includes expanding service to more countries. While Costa Rica and Peru lead Latin America in new Game Pass signups, Brazil is a much larger market. “In many ways, Brazil leads a lot of the trends that we see globally,” Spencer said.

However, mobile gaming remains a considerable part of Brazil’s gaming market, somewhere Microsoft lags behind. While Cloud Gaming allows users to stream games to their phones, it’s primarily a PC and console-focused service. An Xbox mobile game store could give Microsoft access to a vast market, assuming everything goes according to plan.

Gunfire Games’s Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant II surprise dropped on Game Pass. The Soulslike third-person shooter RPGs see players traveling across parallel universes to save humanity from an interdimensional evil called the Root. The second game’s first DLC, Awakened Kin, launched in September.

The Remnant games arrived on Game Pass with absolutely zero fanfare. None of Xbox, Gunfire Games, nor publisher Gearbox Software made any official announcement about the game’s arrival on the subscription service. This has led some to speculate that Game Pass might have launched the games prematurely before the official announcement. Perhaps, as Windows Central suggested, the studios involved were waiting for the Game Awards next week. Either way, the games are available now for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Some describe the Remnant series as combining Dark Souls, Fallout, and Gears of War. Both Remnant games saw a mixed but positive reception, with critics praising their combat, environments, and boss design. While From the Ashes suffered from some technical issues, its sequel avoided most of those problems. The first game has a Metacritic score of 77 on PS4, 78 on PC, and 81 on Xbox One. Meanwhile, Remnant II has more evenly distributed scores of 80 on PS5 and PC and 85 on Xbox Series X.

Regardless of the somewhat unusual circumstances around the game’s arrival on the platform, this is a good deal for Game Pass subscribers. The first game normally retails for $39.99, with Remnant II selling for $49.99, for a total of about $89.98.

It’s no secret that 2023 is not Destiny 2’s strongest year. However, the last 30 days have been exceptionally bad, with the game experiencing an all-time low of players on Steam. Data on the game’s console players are harder to come by. However, its poor Steam performance could indicate broader problems for Bungie.

Destiny 2 has its worst-ever month on Steam

According to SteamCharts, Destiny 2 averaged 34,297 concurrent players over the last 30 days. That’s the lowest since the game arrived on Steam in 2019. The game’s monthly peak player numbers were also the worst it’s ever been, with only 59,076. That is down from 68,148 in October and 145,390 in September. The game saw its popularity in March 2023, with an average of 135,102 and a peak of 312,925. Since then, Destiny 2’s concurrent player numbers have experienced a pretty steady decline.

It is no secret that Destiny 2 is not performing as well as it used to or as well as its developer would like. Bungie recently admitted that Destiny 2 is underperforming, and the game’s been bleeding players for some time. However, these new lows demonstrate how grim the situation is, especially with Bungie already facing significant layoffs.  

Notably, the game’s rapidly declining popularity is a significant reversal from the growth it experienced in early 2023. In fact, the game’s all-time peak of 316,651 concurrent players happened in February, around the release of Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion. Players’ disaffection with Lightfall is likely the primary contributor to their waning interest in the game.

Meanwhile, there hasn’t been much word on the rumored Destiny movie or TV show. The same upcoming Season of the Witch and Taken Shape expansion has the potential to reinvigorate the player base. However, Taken Shape will also mark Destiny 2’s transition from seasons to episodic content, which some believe will lead to further loss of players.
