Disclaimer: This article contains mentions of murder and blood. Readers’ discretion is advised.

Jennifer Dulos‘ case recently resurfaced as a Connecticut court declared the missing mother-of-five dead after four years. Police never found her body. Earlier, prosecutors had charged Jennifer’s estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, and his girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, in connection with her disappearance and alleged murder. Authorities accused Troconis of helping Fotis Dulos cover up the crime.

According to NBC News, Fotis faced capital murder, murder, and kidnapping charges in January 2020. He attempted to commit suicide later that same month and died at a New York City hospital two days later. Now, Troconis, 49, is facing one count of conspiracy to commit murder, among other charges, as per The Independent. The outlet also reported that Michelle Troconis’ trial began on January 11, 2024.

On May 24, 2019, Jennifer Dulos, 50, disappeared after dropping off her children at school. Police believe her estranged husband attacked the mother in her garage but have failed to find her body. Last October, a probate judge officially declared her dead.

How was Michelle Troconis linked to Jennifer Dulos’ case?

Michelle Troconis is now on trial for her role in Jennifer Dulos’ case. According to People Magazine, Troconis was in a relationship with Jennifer’s estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, when she disappeared. The estranged couple were in the midst of a bitter custody battle over their five children when the 50-year-old mother disappeared in May 2019.

The outlet confirmed that Troconis is facing conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of conspiracy to tamper with physical evidence, two counts of tampering with physical evidence, and second-degree hindering prosecution. She reportedly pleaded not guilty to all charges.

CBS News reported that in October, Michelle Troconis wrote in a social media posting, “It’s been 4 1/2 years since I was wrongly accused. I have faith in Justice and the jury system.” The 49-year-old maintains her innocence in the case and insists that she did not help cover it up.

At Troconis’ trial, New Canaan police Lt. Aaron LaTourette was the first to take the stand, as per AP News. He was one of the first officers to be at Jennifer Dulos’ home after receiving a 911 call from her babysitter on May 24, 2019. LaTourette said they found what looked like blood droplets on an SUV and on the garage floor at the New Canaan home. They also found a partial bloody footprint and an “area that appeared to be smeared as if it was cleaned up.”

Lt. LaTourette said that he “noticed that there was what appeared to be red blood on the front of that vehicle.” He further added that officers initially believed it could have been a deer strike. However, there was no damage and no hairs. Officers also alleged that the amount of blood suggested that it was unlikely the victim could have survived the injuries.

What is the evidence against Michelle Troconis?

Evidence against Michelle Troconis includes surveillance footage of her and Fotis Dulos from the evening of Jennifer Dulos’ disappearance, as per CBS. The duo was recorded on city video cameras in Hartford, stopping at several locations. In one instance, Fotis got out of the pickup truck to dispose of garbage bags while Troconis sat in the vehicle.

The outlet confirmed that police recovered some of the said garbage bags several days later using information from Fotis’ cellphone location and city video footage. Investigators then found clothing, zip ties, and other incriminating items containing Jennifer Dulos’ DNA in these bags. Some of these items had blood on them, while others contained Fotis’ DNA.

Reportedly, another bag had Michelle Troconis’ DNA on it. However, she later told police that she did not know what was in the bags. Police also found what they dubbed “the alibi script.” They believe that Fotis and Troconis wrote a two-page timeline of their whereabouts on May 24, 2019.

AP News stated that authorities allege Jennifer’s estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, waited for her to return home that morning. He allegedly attacked her in the garage and tried to clean up the scene. Fotis then drove off with her body in a second SUV, which police later found abandoned at a local park.

Fotis, 52, the main suspect, died two days after he attempted to commit suicide in January 2020. The incident occurred weeks after prosecutors charged him with capital murder in connection with Jennifer’s alleged murder. A third individual, Kent Mawhinney, Fotis Dulos’ friend and lawyer, also faces a conspiracy to commit murder charge. Mawhinney has pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial.

Jennifer Dulos’ case has previously been featured in episodes of Dateline NBC and CBS 48 Hours. A series titled Beyond the Headlines: The Jennifer Dulos Story also covers the mysterious disappearance.

Dateline NBC plans to re-examine the gruesome murder-for-hire plot that killed Ted Shaughnessy in 2018. The upcoming episode, titled ‘Ghosts Can’t Talk,’ will detail how Nicolas Shaughnessy and his then-wife, Jaclyn Edison, stitched a plan to kill Nicolas’ father. The episode will air on the network on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET.

On March 2, 2018, Ted’s wife, Corey Shaughnessy, called 911 to report that an intruder had entered their Austin home. Citing the arrest affidavits, ABC News reported that Corey exchanged fire with an unknown assailant before she hid in the closet. She called 911 and told them that her husband had endured several gunshot wounds. The outlet also stated that the police found Ted Shaughnessy’s body in the kitchen. Additionally, the authorities found that the kitchen’s window was open, and its screen was also removed.

The authorities started an investigation and ordered a search of Nicolas and Jaclyn’s house on March 5, 2018. As per ABC News, the investigators found a box of .380 caliber ammunition, with six rounds missing from the box. Subsequently, the authorities discovered text messages in which the duo discussed a certain aspect of the plan. In May 2018, the police arrested Nicolas Shaughnessy and Jaclyn Edison and charged them with “soliciting to commit capital murder.”

Where are Ted Shaughnessy’s killers now?

As mentioned above, the authorities arrested Nicolas Shaughnessy and Jaclyn Edison in the Ted Shaughnessy murder case. According to ABC News, Nicolas offered money in exchange for murdering his parents. Meanwhile, KXAN Austin cited police and reported that the culprits hired Arieon Smith and Johnny Leon to commit the murder.

Nicolas, Jaclyn, and Smith pleaded guilty to their respective charges. Meanwhile, the court sentenced Jaclyn to 10 years probation, as per Daily Mail.

Currently, Nicolas Shaughnessy is serving his sentence in Clemens Unit, Texas. Meanwhile, Smith is in LeBlanc Unit, Texas.

Disclaimer: The article contains mentions of abuse and murder. Readers’ discretion is advised.

Chester Turner is an American serial killer convicted of the first-degree murders of several women, including the murder of a pregnant woman, over the period of more than ten years in the 1980s and 1990s. Most of his victims were allegedly homeless or were sex workers. He was also convicted of committing second-degree murder against a woman who was 6 and a half months pregnant. Turner was convicted in 2007 and sentenced to death.

Turner is also a convicted sexual offender. He served time in prison for a rape conviction in 2002. Through the 1980s and 1990s, he was arrested on multiple occasions for drug possession and theft, while animal cruelty and assault on an officer are some other crimes on record. However, these allegations were completely unrelated to the murders that he was later convicted of.

The trial that convicted Chester Turner was a fairly long one as he was sentenced twice. The first time was in 2007 for the murder of ten women and then, in 2014, again for four more women. He was sentenced to death twice. Despite the defense’s attempt, the court did not alter the death sentence for Turner on the charges of second-degree murder. The trials also remain one of the most important trials for a serial killer because of the multiple sentencing and the strength of forensic evidence.

Paula Vance, Brenda Bries, Diane Johnson, Natalie Price, Mildred Beasley, Tammie Christmas, Debra Williams, Mary Edwards, Annette Ernest, Anita Fishman, Regina Washington, Andrea Tripplett, and Desarae Jones, were all Chester Turner’s identified victims.

How was Chester Turner caught?

DNA testing was at the center of the investigation, leading to Chester Turner’s conviction. The California Combined DNA Index System linked Turner to the series of murders. Between 1987 and 1998, he committed 13 murders to which he was linked through DNA according to the records of the Los Angeles Police Department. At the time of his arrest, Turner, who was 37, worked as a pizza delivery man.

Regina Washington’s murder was among the most controversial and gruesome killings, leading to his consideration as one of the most prolific serial killers in the state. Washington was six and a half months pregnant at the time of the death. This caused the charges against Turner to be elevated to those of second-degree murder. He was widely known as The Southside Slayer, a name frequently used for other serial killers in Los Angeles too.

In 2007, they initially convicted Chester Turner of only 10 murders. Later, in 2014, he was convicted of four additional killings and was sentenced to death once again. According to CBS News, prosecutors claimed that Turner mostly targeted “vulnerable women,” including prostitutes and the homeless. According to NBC Los Angeles, Chester Turner is currently on death row at the San Quentin State Prison.

The ninth episode in Season 6 of World’s Most Evil Killers digs deeper into Chester Turner’s gruesome crimes. It was released on December 14, 2021. Lastly, the show is currently streaming on Prime Video.

Disclaimer: The article mentions murder and violence. Readers’ discretion is advised.

H. H. Holmes is an American serial killer who is known to have killed over 27 women and is rumored to have killed many more. He is one of the earliest known serial killers in the US and is frequently compared to Jack the Ripper, one of the most widely known serial killers who killed in London, a continent away from Holmes. However, attorney Jeff Mudgett, Holmes’ great-great-grandson, claimed that it was indeed H. Holmes, who was never caught, who turned out to be Jack the Ripper.

Mudgett claimed to have personal diaries of H. H. Holmes which suggested that he was in London when the Whitechapel murders, the series of crimes committed by Jack the Ripper, peaked. The diaries narrated that Holmes wasn’t alone in London and had an associate with him. Holmes and Jack the Ripper, however, differed starkly in how they killed. While the latter was accused of murdering prostitutes around London with a knife in hand, H. H. Holmes allegedly planned his murders elaborately.

While Jack the Ripper’s motives remain unclear, H. H. Holmes, who was thoroughly trained in dissection, killed with clear motives of material benefit such as claiming insurance amounts. Despite the seemingly unplanned murders, people consider the fact that Jack the Ripper never got caught as a sign of his modestly calculated crimes. Additionally, Jack the Ripper’s murders abruptly in the fall of 1988 as mentioned in the History Channel‘s account of the serial killer.

Although many believe that H. H. Holmes committed over 200 murders in his ‘Murder Castle’, which was widely portrayed by media as a torture chamber where victims died of asphyxiation and other deadly methods, many of these accounts are suggested to be exaggerated and sensationalized. This phenomenon, however, is widely attributed to the popularity of yellow journalism.

How was H. H. Holmes caught?

H. H. Holmes was involved in a horse swindle in Texas and was arrested for it. During his arrest, he met Marion Hedgepath and pitched an idea to execute a scam and claim life insurance by faking his death. Hedgepath was supposed to help him out in case of any legal complications. In return, Holmes offered him a small share of the insurance money. Authorities did not release the insurance amount, pushing H. H. Holmes to give the scam a second shot.

H. H. Holmes met Benjamin Pitezel and this time, he suggested to fake Pitezel’s death. The two partnered up to execute the crime. However, Hedgepath, outraged by Holmes not giving him the money he promised, reported H. H. Holmes’ intentions to commit fraud to the police. The police arrested Holmes for the same case of horse swindling. Authorities began to suspect that Holmes murdered Benjamin Pitezel and his three children, aged between 7 and 14, to cover it up. They began searching through his home and belongings.

The police found torture chambers and human remains in the building. They tracked his path from Chicago to Indianapolis where they discovered the remains of Pitezel’s children, according to a report by the U. S. Sun. The allegation that H. H. Holmes killed Pitezel and his children was the only one that had solid evidence and led to his conviction. Holmes was sentenced to death for Pitezel’s murder. Further, on May 7, 1896, when they hanged Holmes in Philadelphia, he confessed to 27 murders.

The Murder Castle is a TV mini-series that follows H. H. Holmes and his ways of luring guests into his murder castle to entrap them. The show is only loosely based on the stories told about H. H. Holmes and is streaming on Apple TV+.

Disclaimer: The article contains mentions of abuse and murder. Readers’ discretion is advised.

Jennifer Dulos has officially been declared dead, four years after she disappeared from her home in Connecticut. In June 2019, about a month after she vanished, Jennifer’s estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, and his girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, were charged with the disappearance and presumed death. They were additionally charged with the tampering of evidence after further investigation.

The police found surveillance footage of Troconis and Fotis in which they allegedly drove through Hartford as they disposed of garbage bags across the capital, Fox News reported. Fotis Dulos and Michelle Troconis denied all charges after they were arrested. Fotis and Troconis were released on a $6 million and $2 million bond, respectively, before Fotis died by suicide. He was hospitalized for days owing to carbon monoxide poisoning and passed soon after.

The Connecticut Law dictates that anyone missing for seven years or more shall be declared dead. Although it has been less than five years since Jennifer was last seen, her mother, Gloria Farber, in August 2023, requested that Jennifer Dulos be declared dead. NBC Connecticut reported that she filed a petition with the court to declare her daughter dead in order to “protect Jennifer and her children’s assets.” She argued that the inheritance of Jennifer Dulos’ assets will remain undetermined until she is declared dead.

On October 24, 2023, the declaration that Jennifer Dulos is deceased was made official after evidence was examined and the fact that Jennifer has not contacted any of her family members or friends ever since she vanished. Despite extensive efforts by authorities, Jennifer’s body was never recovered, with the accused pleading not guilty.

When did Jennifer Dulos disappear? Missing case explored

On May 24, 2019, Dulos, a mother of five, dropped her children at school in New Canaan. That was where she was last seen before she vanished. The disappearance occurred amidst her active legal battle for child custody and divorce against Fotis Dulos. Fotis and Jennifer were in the process of getting a divorce at the time of the disappearance. Jennifer was 50, and Fotis was 52 at the time of her disappearance.

Upon investigation, the police found Jennifer Dulos’ SUV by Waveny Park, and a missing person’s case was made official. Gloria Farber, 88, filed for the custody of Jennifer’s children. The children are now between 13 and 17 years old. According to the Independent, Jennifer determined in her will that all her assets would be passed on to her children. She declared this only two months before filing for divorce from Fotis, whom she was married for 13 years.

NBC Connecticut also reported that Jennifer accused Fotis of “controlling, volatile, and delusional behavior,” which led to her being afraid for “her and her family’s safety.” Along with Michelle and Fotis, Kent Mawhinney was also charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Mawhinney is an attorney who represented Fotis Dulos in a previous civil case. The case that he fought for Fotis was completely unrelated to Jennifer Dulos’ disappearance.

Michelle Troconis pleaded not guilty to the murder conspiracy charge and was publicly supported by her family. She has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, tampering with physical evidence, hindering prosecution, and additional charges. Her trial was scheduled to begin on January 11, 2024. The trial is streaming live on NBC Connecticut’s Streaming Channel.

Disclaimer: The article mentions death and violence. Readers’ discretion is advised.

A 14-year-old teenager from Cleveland, Ohio, named Gloria Pointer was raped and murdered by an unknown assailant on her way to school in December 1984. Unfortunately, at the time, due to a lack of technological advancements, the case could not be solved. However, after three decades, authorities finally discovered that the man behind the teenager’s death was a convicted rapist named Hernandez Warren.

To solve the case, investigators reportedly used DNA identification technology. After the case was reopened, they discovered a piece of DNA evidence from the victim’s clothing. This eventually led to Hernandez Warren’s arrest and imprisonment.

According to The Sun US, officials arrested Warren in 2013. A year later, the court found him guilty of the rape and first-degree aggravated murder of Gloria Pointer. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, but Warren is eligible for parole in 2043. He is currently serving his sentence at the Southeastern Correctional Institution in Lancaster, Ohio.

NBC Dateline showed Gloria Pointer’s tragic story on the January 5, 2024, episode titled ‘A Promise to Gloria.’ According to IMDb, the synopsis of the episode read, “A mother searches for answers in the unsolved murder of her 14-year-old daughter until new DNA technology changes everything.”

Netflix has dropped the official Lover, Stalker, Killer trailer for its newest true crime documentary, which revolves around another online dating gone wrong scenario.

The video introduces Dave, whose online dating journey turns into a nightmare. After finally finding the perfect match for him, he unexpectedly gets dragged into a chaotic love triangle situation when one of the women he briefly dated starts acting dangerously possessive over him. The documentary film is slated to start streaming on February 9.

Check out the Lover, Stalker, Killer trailer below (watch more trailers):

What to expect in Lover, Stalker, Killer?

Lover, Stalker, Killer is directed by Sam Hobkinson (Fear City: New York vs The Mafia). It is executive produced by Dov Freedman and Charlie Russell, with Sophie Clayton-Payne serving as a producer. It is a production by Curious Films (Running with the Devil).

“Dave was recently out of a long-term relationship and eager to restart his romantic life, so he did what most people do: He tried online dating. Liz and Cari were two of his most promising connections, both single moms with winning personalities who helped bring him out of his shell in different ways. It should have been an opportunity for this hard-working, devoted dad to enjoy a second chance at casual romance, but it turned into a twisted love triangle, putting Dave and everyone he cared about at risk,” reads the synopsis.

“Using interviews with those involved – including the law enforcement officers who cracked the case – alongside vivid reenactments that bring viewers into the tension and paranoia of Dave’s four-year nightmare, this feature documentary deftly assembles the pieces of a mind-bending true tale of harassment, digital deception, and murder in America’s heartland.”

Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán is the now-imprisoned founder and former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. He created a vast drug empire by overseeing operations that produced, smuggled, and distributed drugs throughout the USA and Europe.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, at the peak of his power, El Chapo’s net worth was USD 1 billion. Born to Emilio Guzmán Bustillos and María Consuelo Loera Pérez on April 4, 1957, in Sinaloa, Mexico, much of El Chapo’s childhood remains shrouded in mystery. However, he belonged to a poor family. His father was reportedly a cattle rancher. He also had two younger sisters—Armida and Bernarda—and four younger brothers—Miguel Ángel, Aureliano, Arturo, and Emilio.

After years of chase, authorities captured him for the third time in a shootout in January 2016. Earlier, he escaped from jail twice, once in 2001 and again in 2015. As per reports, he is currently serving life imprisonment in the highly secure ADX Florence in Colorado, United States.

In 2017, Netflix released a crime television series titled El Chapo, where Mexican actor Marco de la O played the drug lord. Later on, Alejandro Edda portrayed his character in Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico.

What was El Chapo charged with?

According to ABC News, the jury found El Chapo guilty of violence, murders, and “smuggling of massive amounts of narcotics” into the US over the years. Following the verdict, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Ray Donovan called Guzman a “ruthless killer” who caused a lot of death and destruction in the US and Mexico. Donovan stated, “He was the man behind the curtain — he pulled all the strings.”

A defense attorney told reporters, “You still have to fight” no matter who your client is. This was a case that was literally, literally, an avalanche of evidence… Everything was left on the battlefield.”

The Sinaloa Cartel’s current leader is Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.

Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, aka El Chapo, was one of the most powerful drug traffickers in the world. He founded and led the notorious Sinaloa Cartel, an international organized crime syndicate based in Culiacán in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Chapo’s early career began with a drug lord named Héctor Luis Palma Salazar. He also worked for another kingpin named Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo during the 80s. However, following Félix’s arrest, Chapo founded the Sinaloa Cartel in 1988. Here, he looked over operations that produced, smuggled, and distributed drugs throughout the United States and Europe.

One of the most fascinating techniques he used to smuggle drugs was through using distribution cells and long-range tunnels near borders. El Chapo was first arrested in 1993 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, he managed to escape in 2001 after bribing prison guards.

He was arrested again in 2014, but he managed to escape again, this time before his sentencing. El Chapo’s associates dug a tunnel into his jail cell, which he used to flee. In total, the Mexican drug lord managed to escape prison twice.

How did El Chapo escape from prison?

El Chapo’s second prison escape is a rather fascinating story. On July 11, 2015, prison guards last saw the drug lord near the shower area in his cell at around 9 p.m. Personnel reached his cell after failing to appear on the surveillance camera for twenty-five minutes, only to discover him gone.

Upon investigation, they discovered that El Chapo escaped through a one-mile-long tunnel. This tunnel was connected from his prison shower area to a far-away construction site. Moreover, according to CBS News, the tunnel was well-lit, had air ducts, and there was a motorcycle.

After nearly six months of manhunt, El Chapo was finally captured for the third time on January 8, 2016. The news was announced by Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto on the same day as well. El Chapo is currently serving life imprisonment in Colorado’s ADX Florence.

The life of the Mexican drug lord has been the subject of popular culture. As it is, he has been portrayed a few times on television and in literature. Notably, actor Alejandro Edda portrayed Guzmán in the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico.

Real estate heir Robert Durst gained popularity after HBO’s documentary series The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst aired in 2015. The docuseries came forward with horrifying truths about his life. However, one of the shocking aspects of the series was the disappearance of Durst’s first wife, Kathleen McCormack, and the death of Susan Berman.

McCormack, who married Durst in 1973, had an abusive marriage and told her friends about it. On January 31, 1982, she was attending a friend’s party when she received a call from Robert Durst. Before returning home, she told her friend that she was afraid of what Durst would do to her.

According to Vulture, Durst had become controlling and abusive and also forced Kathleen to have an abortion. Sadly, January 31, 1982, turned out to be the last time anyone heard from Kathleen McCormack. Durst filed a missing report on February 5, and when the media questioned him frequently, he appointed Susan Berman as his unofficial spokesperson. However, in December 2000, Berman was discovered dead due to a gunshot wound on her head.

The authorities discovered an anonymous letter in her house addressed to Beverly Hills police, but it was misspelled as “Beverley Hills.” For several years, police couldn’t catch her killer. But when HBO featured that note in the series, it helped the authorities to arrest Durst for Berman’s murder.

In March 2020, the trial of Susan Berman’s murder began, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the trial went on hiatus for 14 months. In September 2021, the jury found Robert Durst guilty of Berman’s slaying and sentenced him to life in prison. However, in January 2022, Robert Durst died due to a heart attack at San Joaquin General Hospital in California. He was 78.

As mentioned above, Robert Durst stopped talking to the media in 1982. He appointed Susan Berman as his unofficial spokesperson. Durst and Berman became friends in the 1960s when they were studying at the University of California, Los Angeles, according to Oxygen (via Yahoo News).

Vulture reported that Durst also helped her financially and gave him two checks of $25,000 when she experienced difficulties. However, in December 2000, Berman’s death shocked everyone. The authorities didn’t find any sign of forced entry, but they found an anonymous letter addressed to Beverly Hills police. This letter would later turn out to be crucial in Durst’s conviction.

In 2015, HBO presented the aforementioned note in the documentary series The Jinx. According to the Los Angeles Times, the writer had misspelled the city’s name as “Beverley Hills” in the note. The outlet also mentioned that the cinematographer of the series received a letter with the same spelling mistake and “style of lettering.” This piece of evidence turned out to be significant in convicting Robert Durst.

Durst found guilty of Berman’s murder and sent to life in prison

During the trial, the prosecution team kept on talking about the narcissistic behavior shown by Durst. As per The Guardian, the prosecutors painted a picture in which Durst believed that the laws didn’t apply to him. The prosecution team intertwined evidence of Berman’s murder with the suspected death of Kathleen McCormack and Morris Black, Durst’s neighbor.

Despite admitting that he wrote the anonymous letter, Robert Durst kept on saying that he didn’t kill Susan Berman. However, according to The New York Times, the jury found him guilty and also noted that Durst had been “lying in wait” for Berman, and he had been “killing a witness” due to the fear that she would disclose information about his wife’s disappearance.

Robert Durst was sentenced to life in prison. In October 2021, the New York state police charged him with the murder of his first wife, Kathleen McCormack. However, in January 2022, he died at a hospital in California.

On October 22, 2021, authorities charged real estate heir Robert Durst with the murder of his first wife, Kathleen McCormack. However, that was not the first time Durst was tangled in a controversy and gained attention. He went on to become a notorious figure in the real estate world for committing heinous crimes.

According to Vulture, the Durst and Kathleen moved to New York in 1973. Later that year, the duo married each other. Seven years later, in 1980, their relationship became strained, and Kathleen allegedly told her friends that Durst had become abusive. The aforementioned outlet also reported that he forced her to have an abortion.

The alleged abuse continued, and on January 31, 1982, Kathleen received a call from angry Durst while attending a friend’s party. Vulture also revealed that Kathleen told one of her friends, Gilberte Najamy, that she was afraid of her husband. Unfortunately, Kathleen hasn’t been heard from since that incident.

Robert Durst filed a missing report on February 5, 1982. The investigations began, but the police couldn’t find her because there was no evidence of a crime. As time passed, Durst continued doing his business while the authorities found nothing in Kathleen’s disappearance. However, he allegedly killed anyone who posed a threat to him. Three decades later, in October 2021, the police charged Robert Durst with the murder of Kathleen McCormack.

How was Robert Durst caught?

As mentioned above, the authorities charged him with the murder of Kathleen McCormack in 2021. However, a lot happened after Kathleen’s disappearance in 1982 that led to his conviction. According to Vulture, in 1982, Robert Durst stopped talking to the media and appointed Susan Berman as his unofficial spokesperson. Berman and Durst maintained a good relationship.

The outlet also mentioned that Berman sent him a letter and asked for money in the year 2000. A few months later, the real estate heir sent her two checks worth $25,000. However, in December 2000, Berman died because of a gunshot wound to her head. Although the police found no sign of forced entry, they did find an anonymous letter addressed to the “Beverley Hills” (correct spelling: Beverly Hills) police.

Meanwhile, in 2001, a family discovered the dismembered torso of a man named Morris Black, who was Durst’s neighbor. The police found the address of the boarding house during the investigation and found Durst’s name on a receipt.

In October 2001, the authorities arrested Durst, and in 2003, he went on trial. Despite being found not guilty in the Morris Black murder case, the accused pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and jumping bail the following year. As a result, the court sentenced him to five years in prison in 2004. Almost two years later, authorities released him from prison.

HBO’s documentary leads to Durst’s conviction

In 2015, HBO released a documentary titled The Jinx, which followed Robert Durst’s life. For years, the real estate heir evaded conviction, but a piece of evidence presented in the documentary series turned out to be his doom. The series came forward with the anonymous note that the police discovered in Berman’s house.

In the note, the writer misspelled the city’s name as “Beverley Hills,” according to the Los Angeles Times. The outlet also reported that the cinematographer of The Jinx received a letter with the same misspelling. This piece of evidence turned out to be crucial in Robert Durst’s conviction. In September 2021, the jury found him guilty in Susan Berman’s murder case and sentenced him to life in prison without parole. The same year, in October, the state police in New York charged him with the murder of Kathleen McCormack, but in January 2022, he died due to a heart attack in San Joaquin General Hospital, California.

The Jinx is currently streaming on Max.

Disclaimer: The article contains mention of murder and assault. Readers’ discretion is advised.

The notoriety of Jeffrey Dahmer, aka The Milwaukee Monster, will be discussed for years to come. This American serial killer murdered 17 individuals between 1978 and 1991. In addition, he even took part in hideous acts such as necrophilia, cannibalism, and permanent preservation of his victims’s body parts.

The then 32-year-old Tracy Edwards was going to be Jeffrey Dahmer’s 18th victim. However, due to his quick thinking, he managed to escape and ultimately led Milwaukee police officers Robert Rauth and Rolf Mueller to the serial killer’s apartment. Dahmer invited Edwards to his place and offered him money in exchange for posing for nude photographs. Upon their entrance, Edwards got a stench of rotting flesh. The serial killer soon drugged and handcuffed him with a knife pointed at his chest.

Dahmer then took him to a bedroom and made him watch The Exorcist III. However, the 32-year-old managed to convince the killer to take him back to the living room. According to Daily Mail, he said, “‘I talked him into taking me back to the living room but on the way, we stopped in the kitchen, where he opened the refrigerator to reveal a bloody mass of flesh inside.”

Eventually, Edwards made for the front door, striking Dahmer in the jaw, and opened both its locks simultaneously. Once free, with handcuffs dangling from his wrists, he approached cops and explained everything that happened to him.

When did Jeffrey Dahmer and Tracy Edwards meet?

Tracy Edwards met Jeffrey Dahmer on July 22, 1991. For his crimes, the court sentenced Dahmer to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. However, a fellow inmate named Christopher Scarver beat him to death on November 28, 1994.

In 2022, Netflix released a true crime anthology series titled Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, where Evan Peters played Jeffrey Dahmer and Shaun J.
Disclaimer: The article contains mentions of abuse and murder. Readers’ discretion is advised.

The Menendez brothers were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without a chance for parole in March 1996. Erik and Lyle Menendez were held guilty of killing their parents in August 1989. Although the brothers claimed that they had found their parents dead when they returned home one night, the investigation proved that they killed their parents, Jose Menendez and Mary Louise.

In 1993, after the murder trial had begun. The Menendez brothers confessed to killing their parents but revealed that they did it after years of sexual abuse perpetrated by them. The prosecution argued that Lyle and Erik were after the inheritance that their parents’ deaths would subsequently leave them. The central evidence in the case, however, was the confession that the brothers made to a therapist.

In their account to the therapist, the brothers claimed that they had killed their mother to “put her out of her misery.” They didn’t mention the abuse in their confession at any point. This makes it tricky to establish whether or not the abuse had occurred. The Menendez brothers would allegedly gain access to their parents’ inheritance of $14 million, which was seen to be a major motive for the crime.

According to a report by the LA Times, the initial trial of the Menendez brothers triggered nationwide conversations about parental abuse and children’s safety within the home. The controversy around the case made it one of the most popular true crime stories in American history. In May 2023, CNN reported that the court found Jose Menendez to have been sexually abusing his sons even as late as 1988.

How old were the Menendez Brothers when they were found guilty?

Erik and Lyle Menendez were 18 and 21 years old, respectively, when their parents were found dead. The conviction only happened 7 years later when the Menendez brothers were 25 and 28, respectively. The brothers reportedly purchased shotguns on August 18, 1989, a couple of days before the murder. Mary and Jose were shot to death in their residence on August 20, 1989.

Erik and Lyle called 911 and claimed that they found their parents dead when they reached home. However, investigators found that the Menendez brothers were living a fairly lavish life after the death of their parents. They were spending their newly inherited money without any constraints. Additionally, authorities found a screenplay written by Erik. It was about a man who kills his parents to inherit $157 million, making suspicions stronger.

Finally, it was the Menendez brothers’ confession to their therapist, Oziel, that led to the allegations and subsequent conviction. Lyle claimed to have confronted his father about the abuse on August 17, 1989. Erik explained that their father also threatened him with physical abuse and even weapons when he refused to stand the sexual abuse. Several relatives and people close to the family claimed that Jose was an extremely controlling father. The Menendez brothers also allegedly had a tough time living up to their father’s expectations.

‘Suburban Nightmare: The Menendez Brothers’ is a documentary that explores the crimes and convictions of the Menendez brothers. It was released in September 2022. Netflix announced a feature titled, ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, ‘which is about the crimes and convictions of the Menendez brothers.
The trailer for American Nightmare was released by Netflix and offers a glimpse into the story of Aaron Quinn and Denise Huskins. It digs deeper into the case of the kidnapping and assault of Denise Huskins. It studies the investigation of the case which briefly took a backseat when the police believed that the entire case was a hoax. Matthew Muller is a Harvard-trained attorney.

In March 2015, masked intruders entered Aaron Quinn and his girlfriend, Denise Huskins‘ home. He allegedly threatened them with a fake gun, tied the couple up and forced them to consume a ‘sleep-inducing’ liquid. He reportedly went on to play a pre-recorded message to make it seem like there were multiple kidnappers. Denise Huskins’ kidnapper Matthew Muller held her hostage for two days after kidnapping her in the trunk of his car.

During this time, Aaron Quinn reportedly approached the police, seeking help. However, was met with hostility from the authorities who believed that the story was made up. Meanwhile, Muller held her in South Lake Tahoe. He then dropped her off at her hometown in Huntington Beach near Los Angeles. Her reappearance added to the police’s belief that the couple was lying before a similar case of home intrusion was recorded Dublin.

How was Denise Huskins’ kidnapper Matthew Muller caught?

Aaron Quinn and Denise Huskins’ accounts of the intrusion and kidnapping were not investigated with any seriousness. This was until Denise Huskins’ kidnapper Matthew Muller was arrested by authorities for a similar intrusion of a home in Dublin, California. There were similarities in the accounts of Huskins’ and the other case. This made it evident that the kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment, did indeed occur.

Denise Huskins’ kidnapper Matthew Muller, wrote e-mails to a San Francisco reported during the time he was holding her hostage. He claimed that a group on elite criminals kidnapped Huskins as part of their tactics. He allegedly operated a drone over Quinn and Huskins’ home before the intrusion to plan out the crime beforehand. It was the elaborate nature of the crime that also pushed the police to believe that the case was a hoax.

Authorities claimed to have found a cell phone which they could trace to Matthew Muller. The police then searched Muller’s home and car. An investigation of his belongings also exposed a computer that he had stolen from Quinn, which confirmed Quinn and Huskins’ accounts of what happened when Denise Huskins’ kidnapper Matthew Muller.

The Vallejo police went public with their claim that the case was a hoax. This attracted a fair amount of backlash after proving the incident true. Muller reportedly expressed shame about what he had done and the pain he had caused, CBS News reported. However, he was found unfit to stand trial, and it was argued that he expressed depressive and manic behavior.

American Nightmare will be streaming from January 17, 2024. A creation by the makers of Tinder Swindler, it is one of the most anticipated true crime releases of the month. You will be able to stream and watch the series on Netflix.

Jim Jones was an infamous American cult leader who was responsible for the Jonestown Massacre, a horrific case of mass murder and suicide. In 1978, Jim Jones ordered his followers to consume cyanide laced fruit punch. He pushed them to end their lives in what he called a “revolutionary suicide.” The victims of the tragedy were part of Jonestown, a commune that Jones created to isolate his followers. He claimed to protect them from the threats of the outside world.

Disclaimer: The article contains mentions of murder and suicide. Readers’ discretion is advised.

In 1955, Jim Jones started a Pentecostal Church in Indianapolis, his church, the Peoples Temple, Jones’ church, became a popular symbol of communist activism. The Peoples Temple was relocated into a part of a Guyanese forest in 1977. The area was converted into an agricultural society. This isolated community that he claimed was a utopian set up. He claimed to design the space to protect his followers from a ‘nuclear holocaust,’ soon came to be known as Jonestown. Jonestown turned hostile to the outside world and began to be guarded by use of weapons.

Rehearsals of mass suicide, brutal labour and violence, rose significant suspicions about the activity of the cult. Leo Ryan, a California Congressman initiated the formation of a delegation to probe for details of the activity in Jonestown. When the delegation arrived in Jonestown in 1978, many members made it clear that they wanted to leave Jonestown, as reported by the FBI records. Jim Jones’ close followers opened fire on the delegates and shot Leo Ryan dead.

After he announced Ryan’s death, Jim Jones called for the ‘white night.’ The members of Jonestown sacrificed themselves as part of a “revolutionary suicide.”

How many people died in Jim Jones’ massacre?

The Jonestown massacre was the most tragic incident of mass murder and suicide in American history, before the terror attacks on September 11, 2001. The tragedy infamously claimed 918 lives with more than 300 being children. The children were poisoned and allegedly suffered for hours before they died. They received cyanide punch and syringes. Some members willingly took their lives and other being brutally coerced into the procedure. Jim Jones also died that day of a single gunshot in the head which is believed to be self-inflicted.

The Peoples Temple mustered over 9000 followers, who engaged in social work and preached racial integration. The Guardian notes that the sound racial integration that the Peoples Temple, led by Jim Jones, practised has remained unmatched even over four decades later. He claimed to be an incarnation of Christ, Buddha and various other divine figures. His followers also believed that Jones had divine and healing powers. Regular propaganda was an integral element of the cult alongside unpaid labor.

Under 100 members of Jonestown survived the tragic incident. The escape was a result of being away from the crime scene. Those who resisted the poison were allegedly forced to consume it. Jim Jones also recorded a ‘death tape’ in which he justified the revolutionary suicide and the FBI later recovered the tapes. Around 400 civilians who died in Jonestown are now buried in a mass grave in Oakland, California.

‘Truth and Lies: Jonestown, Paradise Lost’ is a documentary film that aired on ABC September 2018. 40 years after the tragic Jonestown Massacre, the movie digs deeper into what happened in Jonestown and the events that led up to the massacre.

According to Law & Crime, four-year-old Barbara Jean disappeared in July of 1988 from her Northeast Philadelphia home. A neighbor found her dead body inside a television cardboard box about 1000 feet away from her house. The CBS News reported that the girl had been beaten to death and then stuffed in the cardboard box.

In 1996, the victim’s neighbor, Walter Ogrod, was convicted in Barbara Jean’s murder case based on his confession. Ogrod later alleged that detectives had coerced him into confessing and maintained his innocence. He spent 28 years in prison in total, out of which 23 were on death row, as per CNN. In 2020, a judge overturned Ogrod’s conviction. He walked out of prison in June 2020.

Why was Walter Ogrod’s conviction in Barbara Jean Horn’s murder case overturned?

CNN reported that authorities arrested Walter Ogrod in 1992, four years after Barbara Jean Horn’s murder. He signed a confession but always maintained his innocence, alleging that police detectives working on the case had coerced him into confessing.

At the time of the investigation, five witnesses told police that they saw a man carrying or dragging a box across the area on the afternoon of the murder. However, none of these witnesses could identify Ogrod as the individual in question, as per Law & Crime. The only direct evidence was the confession he made to detectives Martin Devlin and Paul Worrell.

Ogrod’s first trial in 1993 resulted in a mistrial after a juror said he did not agree with the verdict shortly before the foreman was about to announce it. The second trial in October 1996 ended with his conviction, following which he received a death sentence.

According to the Guardian, in 2018, District Attorney Larry Krasner initiated a review of the case. Subsequent DNA testing definitively proved that Ogrod, who was 23 at the time of the crime, did not commit Barbara Jean’s murder.

Where is Walter Ogrod now?

In June 2020, Common Pleas Judge Shelley Robins New ordered a new trial for 55-year-old Walter Ogrod and reduced the charges. Following this, Robins’ move allowed Ogrod’s release on bail from the State Correctional Institution Phoenix in Skippack. Guardian reported that he should face a new trial, but it is unlikely that prosecutors will pursue one. His current whereabouts remain unknown.

As mentioned earlier, Ogrod reportedly spent 28 years in prison, out of which he served 23 years on death row. Barbara Jean Horn’s mother and stepfather also believe in Ogrod’s innocence. The girl’s mother, Sharon Fahy, said, “I believe firmly that he was wrongly convicted.”

In the aforementioned CNN report, Sharon Fahy expressed her frustration with the situation and hoped to finally find justice for her daughter. Sharon added, “We have been lied to when this first happened and we finally have the truth. We hope that we will be able to get the person who took Barbara Jean away from us to pay for the crimes that he did and hope that he didn’t hurt anyone else.”

The following year, in 2021, Ogrod sued the City of Philadelphia for his wrongful conviction. CBS reported that his lawyer revealed they settled the lawsuit for more than $9 million. The outlet also stated that authorities have uploaded the DNA from Barbara Jean’s body to local, state, and national databases. They continue to look for other potential suspects in the decades-old case.

Kelvin “KJ” Taylor, Charleston’s Capital High School student-athlete, died of a gunshot wound to the chest, as per CBS News. The shooting occurred around 8:15 p.m. on April 7, 2021. Months later, in July of that year, police identified 19-year-old Dekotis Thomas as a suspect in the murder using surveillance footage. The following August, Thomas entered a Kennedy plea to one count of first-degree murder, receiving a life sentence.

According to the West Virginia Department of Corrections, Dekotis Thomas is now serving his sentence at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex.

WOWK-TV News 13 reported that on July 8, 2021, authorities arrested Dekotis Thomas, then 19, in connection with Kelvin “KJ” Taylor’s death. Police reportedly identified Thomas as the shooter using surveillance footage from the night of the shooting. The United States Marshal Service (USMS), Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF), and Akron Police Department were working on the case together.

NOVFTF members located Thomas in a home in the 600 block of Glendora Avenue in Akron, Ohio, where he was hiding. They made contact with him in the home and attempted to negotiate surrender. However, Thomas allegedly set fire to the house and threw “an item similar to a Molotov cocktail at officers.” Two hours after the arrival of the USMS at the scene and the fire was put out, the teenager eventually surrendered.

The report stated the Charleston Police Department had named Thomas a suspect in Taylor’s shooting death on April 28, 2021. Following this, in May, he also faced an indictment on four charges, including murder.

Fox News stated that in August 2022, Dekotis Thomas, then 20, entered a Kennedy plea to first-degree murder. The plea deal meant that he did not admit guilt but agreed that the state had enough evidence for a conviction. As part of the same plea deal, prosecutors dismissed three other counts related to KJ Taylor’s death. They also dropped four separate counts stemming from Antwan Curnell’s October 2019 death.

Another WOWK-TV News 13 report mentioned that Thomas received a life sentence without mercy on December 2, 2022.

KJ Taylor was a star Capital High School athlete when Thomas shot him in the chest on April 7, 2021. The shooting occurred on the corner of Glenwood and Central Avenue on the west end of Charleston. The 18-year-old high school senior played football and basketball and was to graduate a month later. Charleston City Council Member Deanna McKinney said, “He [KJ Taylor] didn’t have a chance to graduate. He didn’t even make it to have a family and he is dead and gone.”

See No Evil’s episode on Kelvin “KJ” Taylor’s shooting death will air on ID on January 10, 2024. The episode will delve into the police’s investigation and use of surveillance footage to catch the killer.

Disclaimer: The article contains mentions of murder and suicide. Readers’ discretion is advised.

In June 2013, the police apprehended Aaron Hernandez for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional American football player. Several reports indicated that the gruesome crime happened in the early hours of June 17, 2013. Without wasting any time, the authorities started the investigation and questioned Hernandez.

The police issued a search warrant for Hernandez’s North Attleborough home and on June 18, they started searching the athlete’s house. As per ABC News, the authorities investigated Hernandez’s home after they discovered a body just one mile away from it. Four days later, they searched his house again, but apparently for a different reason. After eight days of the initial search, the police arrested Aaron Hernandez for the murder of Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty and was released on bail. However, in January 2015, the former NFL tight end went on trial in the aforementioned case. Without any guesses, the case turned out to be a worldwide phenomenon and Hernandez’s fans eagerly wanted to know if he committed the murder or not.

The trial went on for four months and in April 2015, the prosecutors and the defense lawyers began their closing arguments. Subsequently, the jury started their deliberations on April 7, 2015, and after eight days, the jury found Aaron Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder.

The accused served his life sentence at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center. However, in 2017, the former NFL player died in his prison cell after he hanged himself on April 19. He was 27.

Why did Aaron Hernandez kill Odin Lloyd?

The reason for Odin Lloyd’s murder remained a mystery to both the government and the public for several months. However, according to reports in Newsweek and the Daily Mail, Aaron Hernandez allegedly killed the semi-professional football player so that no one would get to know about him being a homosexual.

In 2017, a Daily Mail report indicated that the investigators were examining if Lloyd “taunted” Hernandez before the murder. The report also mentioned that Lloyd might have known about the athlete’s complicated sexual life. Additionally, Lloyd, who was dating Hernandez’s sister, knew that the former NFL player had an alleged affair with a male friend.

A report in Newsweek also mentioned the same fact and wrote, “He was convicted in April 2015 for shooting and killing his friend, Odin Lloyd, seemingly without motive. But interviews with multiple law enforcement officials directly involved in the case say Lloyd—a semipro football player who was dating Hernandez’s fiance’s sister at the time—had information the football star did not want out: that he was bisexual.”

However, there is no proof that Hernandez murdered Lloyd because he knew he was bisexual. On the other hand, the messages exchanged between them don’t show if they had any beef against each other.

Hernandez received life imprisonment for the murder of Odin Lloyd

The Bristol County Assistant District Attorney detailed how Odin Lloyd died. Citing his statement, ABC News reported that the victim tried protecting himself from the bullets by putting up his arm during the shooting. The attorney also stated that Lloyd was reportedly shot once in the front and twice in the back. Additionally, the same report claimed that Aaron Hernandez had two accomplices—Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace—who shot Lloyd twice.

The prosecution team presented a lot of evidence against Aaron Hernandez during the trial. As a result, the jury found him guilty of the murder of Lloyd and sentenced him to life in prison. On the other hand, his accomplices also went to prison on charges of accessory to murder.

On June 26, 2013, former NFL player Aaron Hernandez shocked the entire nation with his arrest in connection to the Odin Lloyd murder case. The case garnered worldwide attention because of Hernandez’s involvement, ending his promising career. According to reports, the murder took place in the early hours of June 17, 2013. The authorities initiated an investigation into the case and started looking out for clues.

As soon as the investigation began, the authorities started searching Hernandez’s house. According to ABC News, the authorities searched the former NFL player’s home after they discovered a body not far from Hernandez’s home. Almost eight days after the initial search, the authorities apprehended Aaron Hernandez for Lloyd’s murder. He pleaded not guilty, as per CBS News. In January 2015, Hernandez went to trial in the Odin Lloyd murder case. The prosecution provided several pieces of evidence proving how Hernandez was responsible for Lloyd’s tragic demise.

Four months later, in April 2015, the prosecutors and Hernandez’s team delivered closing arguments. Meanwhile, on April 7, the jury started deliberating on the high-profile case. After eight days, the jury announced its verdict on April 15 and found Aaron Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder. As per CBS News, the former NFL player is sentenced to life in prison.

As mentioned above, the former NFL player allegedly murdered Odin Lloyd in June 2013. Lloyd’s body was discovered one mile from Hernandez’s North Attleborough home. Although the authorities released Hernandez after the initial arrest, ABC News cited Bristol County Assistant District Attorney saying that “there is an overwhelming amount of evidence demonstrating” Aaron Hernandez’s guilt.

The aforementioned outlet also revealed details of Odin Lloyd’s brutal death. Citing the Assistant DA, the publication revealed that Lloyd tried defending himself by “putting up his arm” during the shooting. The DA added, “The first round struck him in the outside of his forearm, traveled through the inside of the forearm and entered his body.”

Additionally, the DA mentioned that Odin Lloyd began to turn and was shot twice in the back. Most importantly, the attorney also noted that Hernandez had two accomplices who also shot him “twice through the chest.” According to Esquire, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz were present when the shooting took place. The police searched Aaron Hernandez’s house twice before arresting him Hernandez’s June 26, 2013. A few days later, the messages between Hernandez and Lloyd surfaced in documents unsealed by the police.

As per Sports Illustrated, Lloyd and Hernandez messaged each other frequently. In one of the exchanges, Lloyd texted, “I’ll hit u when I’m dat way,” to which Hernandez replied, “Aite.” Following this, during the trial, the prosecutors presented surveillance video during the opening arguments. As per ABC News, the prosecutors showed the surveillance video as a series of still images in the trial.

According to the evidence, Hernandez is reportedly shown carrying what appears to be a gun. The prosecutors continuously claimed that Aaron Hernandez tampered with the surveillance cameras. However, the investigators successfully retrieved pictures from 14 different surveillance cameras. On the other hand, the defense team maintained that the former NFL player had no intent to kill. The lawyers also claimed that Hernandez didn’t tamper with any kind of footage.

After months of arguments, in April 2015, the jury found Aaron Hernandez guilty of the murder of Odin Lloyd. The court sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Meanwhile, the court sent his accomplices—Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace—to prison as well. According to NBC News, both received 4.5-7 years of prison sentence.

However, in 2017, Hernandez killed himself in his prison cell. He was 27. His life has been the subject of several documentaries over the years, which are currently available to see on Netflix and other streaming platforms.

Disclaimer: The article contains mentions of abuse and murder. Readers’ discretion is advised.

Nannie Doss is an American serial killer who confessed to killing four of her husbands and is suspected to have killed some of her relatives. Every time she narrated the stories of her murders, she reportedly laughed, giving her the name Giggling Granny. Her laughter, reflecting a portrayal of a happy life, was covering up a series of murders that she committed between the 1920s and 1954.

When she was seven years old, Doss suffered a head injury. This reportedly impacted her view of life as a whole. She grew up with an idealistic view of romance. She hoped to fall in love and live happily with her husband. Her childhood was mostly spent on the family farm, where she helped out with chores.

When she was 16, Doss married Charley Braggs, with whom she had four children between the years 1921 and 1927. Nannie Doss, however, did not share a great relationship with her mother-in-law, who lived with the couple. When they separated in 1928, Braggs took their older daughter Melvina. After Doss’ second marriage, two of Melvina’s children, a newborn and a two-year-old, died in her care.

During this time, Doss was married to Frank Harrelson. She was married to Harrelson for 16 years until 1945, when she killed him. However, the death was believed to be caused by food poisoning. Doss got to collect life insurance, allowing her to purchase land and a home close to Jacksonville. Arlie Lanning, Doss’ next husband, died by poisoning in 1952, which also went uninvestigated as he was a heavy alcoholic, which was assumed to have caused his death.

Richard Morton, Doss’ next husband, was allegedly cheating on Doss and died under strange circumstances.

How did Nannie Doss get caught?

Samuel Doss, her final husband, allegedly controlled her and restricted her from reading magazines or watching television if it wasn’t for educational purposes. She poisoned his prune cake, resulting in him having to stay in the hospital for an entire month. Upon recovery, she again poisoned his coffee, which eventually led to Samuel Doss’ death.

Although it was a similar method that she employed to kill her previous partners, the killing of Samuel Doss led to Nannie Doss’ conviction. The doctor who was treating Samel Doss over his time at the hospital found unnatural levels of arsenic in his body. The doctor’s suspicions of foul play proved to be based, and he immediately alerted the authorities, whose investigation led to Nannie Doss being caught.

Doss’ previous husbands’ deaths were then investigated, and similar amounts of arsenic were found in their bodies, too. She then confessed to having killed four of her husbands, but authorities believe she killed as many as 12 people, including her sister. Nannie Doss claimed that she never killed for money but was just looking for some ‘real romance’ in life. When she didn’t find it in one partner, she would kill them and move on to the next.

She died in 1964 while she was serving time for the murder of Samuel Doss. Nannie Doss blamed her head injury for her criminal behavior and murders. She became widely popular as the Giggling Granny, who killed without even raising suspicions of murder.

Nannie Doss’ crimes are elaborately explored in the 11th episode of ‘Murderous Minds: Inside Serial Killers’, Season 1. The show is currently streaming on Prime Video.
